Old town, tight streets, and some interesting angles

Knaresborough's oldest streets — around the castle and down toward the gorge — are a mix of stone cottages and Georgian townhouses that sit on very tight plots. Getting to some of the windows requires a bit of thought: narrow passages, steep drops toward the Nidd, and properties that face in unusual directions. Twenty years on the poles means I've seen most of the awkward ones and know how to get to them without drama.

Gorge-side properties

The houses that back onto or overlook the Nidd Gorge are some of the most distinctive in the area — and some of the most prone to algae on the glass, particularly on the shadier north-facing elevations. The damp that comes up from the gorge accelerates the buildup. Pure water cleaning lifts it without leaving residue, and there's no soap to wash down the stonework.

The newer estates

Out toward Aspin Lane and the newer builds off the Harrogate road, the properties are more straightforward — modern upvc frames, larger pane sizes, and better access. These run on the same round as the older town centre properties, so one quote covers wherever you are in HG5.

On the same round as Harrogate

Knaresborough sits on the Harrogate round, not a separate one. That means no scheduling gap between the two towns and the same reminder system: a text about three days before and one the night before every visit.
